When deciding what type of holster you want for carrying your weapon, material can be a deal breaker for some. While the plastic holsters that are out there are excellent, some merely prefer the soft feel of leather and who can blame them?
There are many holsters out there that also encompass a couple of different materials such as polymer and leather to make the carry a bit more satisfying.
But of course there are those out there who want that traditional workmanship and soft feel of a 100% leather product.
Some names out there for a quality leather holster include Wright Leather Works, who manufactures beautiful leather holsters that can hold a glock. Not only do they look good, but they feel good too. Consider also that if you purchase a good piece of leather, it can last for a very long time, even decades.
As an example, think about when you purchase a new leather wallet. As you place your belongings inside, the longer you use it. The longer you use it, the more it will begin to mold and become used to what you hold on your person. With a leather holster, this is the same case.
In his article on USConcealedcarry.com, Kevin Michalowski gives his opinion on the beloved leather holster:
“But let’s get back to the look and feel of a quality piece of leather. If I was the type of guy who carried a “barbecue gun,” I would have the finest leather holster money could buy. Perhaps I should explain the concept of the barbecue gun. In some cultures, notably Texas, gentlemen will, when invited to a barbecue or similar occasion, go to the gun safe and select an appropriately ornate sidearm for the special event. Class reunions and graduations might require something tastefully understated, while a wedding reception would need something grand, with engraving and perhaps some gold inlay. Such a firearm would, of course, require a suitably ornate holster. But I digress. (Read more about leather holsters here)”
The kind of holster that you use really is a personal preference, but if you’re into something that’s going to last a long time and stretch to your needs, a leather holster might be for you. The comfort is going to be automatic, unlike with a plastic or holster made of another material. If you’re thinking about switching it up or adding to your holster collection, take a look at some of the soft, leather ones out there on the market.
