While smart phones can certainly prove valuable in emergency situations, any kind of extended mission these days requires the ability to download, uplink, store, and work with data that is now measured in terabytes.
Having a laptop in the field is definitely a nice perk, but keeping it safe from the elements and protecting it from damage is no easy task. Drago Gear, a company known for its high quality padded ballistic cases and backpacks, has risen to the challenge with its Ranger Laptop Backpack.
The laptop compartment sits flush against sturdy padding that conforms to the wearer’s back. The PC pouch can accommodate a 15-inch notebook style computer which is held secure with a Velcro flap. The inside of the pouch is also padded.
The overall design of the Ranger is fairly standard. It features dual shoulder straps with breathable padding and a quick-release chest strap which together work to evenly distribute the load. Dimensions are 18”x 17.5” x 12”.
But the Drago Gear Ranger Laptop Backpack is much more than a glorified computer bag. One of the most interesting features is the MOLLE webbing on the exterior of the bag, as described by author Scott W. Wagner in his article “Drago Gear Ranger Laptop Backpack” at USConcealedCarry.com:
“The Ranger exterior has MOLLE webbing on the front of the sides that allows attachment of load-bearing equipment. I currently use the MOLLE webbing on the front of the large frontal compartment to hold ink pens for quick access, and of course any gear that is MOLLE capable.” (Read more at USConcealedCarry.com)
The main storage area of the Ranger is divided into two sections, upper and lower. The smaller upper section is the best area of the pack to store a handgun, since the Ranger doesn’t have a built in holster. The large lower section actually has its own sub-compartment -- a perfect place to stash keys, pens, spare ammo, and other gear you don’t want drifting around the pack.
Another compartment somewhat hidden on the back of the Ranger can be used for small item storage or as an H20 reservoir. Two loops on the front of the pack on either side are designed to secure tubes that would connect to a water source.
Drago Gear is known for attention to detail and the Ranger is no exception. A strip of Velcro on outside allows for the attachment of small accessories or an organizational/club patch. A clear, business card-sized slot is discretely located on the lower rear of the backpack to facilitate identification.
You will not find many situations where the Ranger Laptop Backpack is out of its element. It’s built to military specifications and can withstand harsh trail conditions while protecting your laptop at the same time. It’s also stylish enough to accompany you to the office. The Drago Gear Ranger Laptop Backpack can be found online for about $55.99.
